Wisteria Assisted Living
Date
Fall 2022
Role
Team Designer
I, along with two partners created Wisteria Assisted Living. At Wisteria Assisted Living, comfort and safety intertwine to create a functional and serene environment, a home away from home. When developing the overall design for Wisteria Assisted Living, we were inspired by the natural environment of the site in Austin, Texas. After extensive research, we found that the Wisteria tree is native to Austin and holds great significance amongst many Asian cultures, especially Korean and Japanese. Koreans believe that the blossoms hold “the meaning of devotion that transcends death.” The Wisteria plant is often gifted in times of doubt to promote encouragement and grant longevity. Like humans, the Wisteria plant is resilient, beautiful, and unique. The color scheme derives from its lilac blossoms and rich green leaves, along with other deep colors that complement each other. The trunk of the Wisteria has the ability to twist and intertwine, which inspired many textures, patterns, and forms throughout the design.
